About Figmentum
Figmentum Robotics is focused on building the next generation of consumer robotics by combining software, embedded systems, and intelligent control. We design and develop innovative robotic solutions with an emphasis on real-world usability, performance, and scalability.
You’ll work with a globally distributed engineering team, gaining exposure to international workflows and contributing to systems that connect research to practical deployment.
Role Overview
We are looking for motivated engineering interns to help build and improve Python-based simulation platforms used to test and evaluate robotics perception and interaction pipelines — especially:
* OCR workflows (image/document capture + processing + evaluation)
* Audio workflows (microphone input + output streams, streaming + latency testing)
Python is the primary language for this role. MATLAB will be used occasionally for modeling/validation and is a plus, but secondary.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and extend Python simulation/test harnesses for OCR and audio pipelines
* Create tools to generate, replay, and label test scenarios (images, streams, logs)
* Implement evaluation metrics (accuracy, latency, throughput, robustness)
* Integrate modules/APIs and manage test datasets and artifacts
* Write clean documentation and support reviews with a distributed team
* (Optional) Prototype supporting experiments in MATLAB for analysis/verification
Qualifications
Required
* Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a recognized university (curriculum similar to University of Moratuwa / University of Peradeniya or equivalent)
* Strong programming foundation with Python proficiency (must-have)
* Comfort with math/engineering fundamentals (signals, control, algorithms, etc.)
* Strong analytical thinking + willingness to learn
* Ability to collaborate and communicate in a global team setting
Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)
* MATLAB exposure (secondary requirement)
* Experience with OCR tools, audio processing, or streaming systems
* Familiarity with Linux, Git, debugging workflows
* Exposure to Raspberry Pi / NVIDIA Jetson, sensors, or embedded projects
* Personal/academic projects demonstrating practical engineering work
Compensation & What You’ll Gain
* LKR 50,000 monthly stipend
* Hands-on experience building real engineering test platforms
* Mentorship from experienced engineers
* Exposure to international collaboration and industry-standard practices
* Opportunity for future roles based on performance
