Role Profile

Senior DevOps Engineer is a key role is within the Team which sits within the Application Services Division having responsibilities to facilitate adoption of standard DevOps toolsets as well as contributing standard architecture patterns for onboarding applications into Cloud

The role will have involvement throughout project lifecycle – from gathering Requirements to Production deployment, and interaction with a wide variety of teams to generate and refine resources including cloud patterns, templates for CI/CD pipelines, application builds, automated testing, code scanning to production deployments.

There will also be involvement in proof-of-concept implementations, pilots and definition of Principles, Policies and Standards providing a framework, functions(scripts), and templates to ensure consistent and efficient delivery automation of SDLC and infrastructure lifecycle activities, reducing human intervention, avoiding redundancy, and enabling the teams to realise the full benefit of standard tools and processes.

Candidates must bring an enthusiastic “you build it you run it” mindset whilst making sure they share their knowledge while removing constraints.

Tech Profile

AWS (including all Core Services & Security Controls), Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Anthos, Kubernetes, ECR, Kafka, CockroachDB, Snowflake, Datadog, Moogsoft, BigPanda, Elastic Search, Rubrik, Scripting Technologies (Bash / Python / PowerShell), Control-M, Jira, Confluence.

We are looking for someone who has 3+ years in:

  • Building cloud native solutions via Infrastructure as Code (IAC) defining patterns and practices
  • DevOps Automation across various Technologies such as those detailed in the Tech Profile, including Secrets Mgmt, Code/Binary Scans and other SDLC tools such as Maven / Ansible.
  • Working at scale in large enterprise organisations implementing niche, end-to-end advanced technology solutions.
  • Building CI/CD pipelines orchestrating the promotion of code using open source or COTS products
  • Defining, implementing cloud native operational requirements
  • Defining standards on observability and implementing cloud alerting solutions
  • Cloud Technology across cloud service providers: Azure, AWS & GCP
  • Has an open and collaborative mindset and is able to communicate with Senior Members of Dev, Infra and architecture teams as needed

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Design and build code to provision the full stack from infrastructure through to application
  • Participate in deep dive analysis and able to provide maturity assessments of current DevOps practices.
  • Develop CI/CD pipelines to orchestrate the promotion of code
  • Integrate the application into the operations architecture such as Datadog, Control-M, Rubrik
  • Develop design patterns, modules, and libraries to integrate SDLC processes into the CI/CD pipeline.
  • Support the project teams to ensure operational requirements are met and changes impacted and implemented
  • Participate as a major contributor to support, technical and user artefacts.
  • Collaborate and contribute with other teams to create common standards and procedures
  • Provide Technical expertise in resolving automation engineering, coding, and architecture issues.
  • Adhere to the appropriate group governance processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Release etc) liaising with other business and technical teams where appropriate
  • Support development changes, provide accurate time estimates, attend project meetings and provide impact analysis for proposed project work and deliver to deadlines
  • Provide technical advice and risk assessment based on knowledge of applications, databases and system software
  • Take ownership of operational live service issues and drive resolution
  • Provide effective escalation and resolution of issues to stakeholders where appropriate
  • Invoke product/development escalation, manage progression and providing input from an operational perspective
  • Identify industry trends and ensure that these are reflected in the resources provided to development teams, working with policy and platform owners where necessary to effect change.
  • Proactively identify operational risks and technical debt. Provide short term solutions whilst tracking long term resolution
  • Identify and implement operational improvements for processes, performance and reliability
  • Contribute to creating educational materials and conducting training and mentoring sessions on DevOps-related subjects.
  • Act as an advocate for the DevOps team, working to understand and mitigate challenges and gaps with regards to all aspects of the intake process.
