Intern Software Engineer

Role Description

• We are looking for a Software Engineer Intern who is passionate about modern web development and building intuitive user interfaces.
• The primary emphasis is on learning to craft modern, interactive user interfaces and supporting the development of real-world applications.
• You will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to both frontend and backend development tasks.
• This is a full-time, on-site internship position based at our office in Kottawa, Colombo.

Key Responsibilities

Frontend & UI/UX Development

• Assist in building responsive and user-friendly interfaces using modern frontend frameworks.
• Support the implementation of UI designs and product requirements into working frontend components.
• Collaborate with designers and developers to understand user flows and interface behavior.
• Learn and follow best practices in accessibility, performance optimization, and component-based architecture.

Backend & Integration

• Design scalable backend architectures, implementing clean service-layer structures
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, optimizing database queries and improving backend performance.
• Write secure, testable, and well-documented backend code.
• Gain exposure to deploying and running applications in containerized environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
• Basic understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Familiarity with React.js (Next.js is a plus).
• Understanding of basic frontend development concepts and component-based architecture.
• Interest in UI/UX design principles and user-centered development.
• Familiarity with Git version control (GitHub/GitLab).
• Basic knowledge of Node.js or Python backend frameworks (FastAPI/Django) is a plus.
• Basic understanding of SQL or NoSQL databases.
• Strong willingness to learn, problem-solving mindset, and good teamwork skills.
