Description
Softcat is offering a 12-month Technical and Services Internship for university students looking to complete their placement year within the technology industry. The programme provides hands-on experience, exposure to real projects, and the opportunity to build technical and professional skills in a large, well-established technology solutions organisation.
Start date: Monday 6 July 2026
Duration: 12 months
Locations: Manchester, Marlow, Leeds (role availability depends on location)
About the Technical and Services Department
Softcat’s Technical and Services teams support customers across areas such as cyber security, digital workspace, hybrid infrastructure, cloud services, advisory, professional services, service management, architecture services, and project delivery. Interns join a specialist team and contribute to live work, gaining experience within a professional technology environment.
Previous interns have worked in roles such as Asset Intelligence Intern, IT Development Intern, IT Project Management Intern, and Managed Device Lifecycle Intern.
Responsibilities
As an intern you will:
- Join a specialist technical or services team and contribute to day-to-day responsibilities
- Support technical projects and customer-focused work
- Collaborate with colleagues across multiple departments
- Build skills in communication, organisation, time management, and technical understanding
- Work with other Softcat interns on group initiatives
- Learn how your team contributes to the wider organisation
Requirements
Softcat is looking for candidates who:
- Are current undergraduate students studying in the UK or Ireland and completing a penultimate-year placement
- Are working towards a degree related to technology or IT
- Have an interest in technology and a desire to learn
- Can build and maintain professional relationships
- Can work independently and as part of a team
- Align with Softcat’s values and inclusive culture
Working arrangements
Softcat offers:
- Hybrid working, typically three days in the office and two from home
- Flexible start and finish times

Recruitment process
The application process includes:
Application > One-way video interview > Virtual assessment centre > Final stage panel interview.
Candidates are first assessed for suitability within the Technical and Services area. Specific placement roles are confirmed at the assessment centre stage.
