We’re looking for an AI Lead Engineer to take technical ownership, guide a multi-disciplinary team, and ship production ML solutions that deliver clear business value. You’ll balance hands-on engineering with strategic oversight, ensuring models are designed, deployed, and maintained to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities
- Own the architecture of end-to-end AI systems, from data ingestion and feature pipelines to training, evaluation, and real-time inference.
- Lead and mentor data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers, fostering a pragmatic, high-performance engineering culture.
- Design and implement scalable MLOps pipelines (CI/CD, automated tests, model versioning, drift detection, retraining) with MLflow/Airflow, Docker, and cloud.
- Collaborate with product, data, and infrastructure teams to translate business problems into deployable AI solutions and prioritise the backlog.
- Champion best practices in code quality, documentation, security, and data governance, ensuring full auditability and compliance.
- Drive continuous optimisation of cost, latency, and model performance in production.
- Stay current with emerging research and tooling, assessing their fit for our roadmap.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years in machine learning engineering, with 2+ years in a senior or lead role.
- Proven delivery of production ML systems in Python (PyTorch or TensorFlow); strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and performance tuning.
- Deep knowledge of cloud-native AI tooling (e.g., SageMaker, Vertex AI).
- Demonstrated experience building agent-based LLM workflows—multi-step reasoning, retrieval-augmented, and multi-agent solutions.
- Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, and observability for models and data pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
- Knowledge of privacy-preserving ML or responsible-AI frameworks will be a plus.
- Contributions to open-source AI projects or peer-reviewed publications will be a plus.
